ADS-B desk radar built with Claude Code: Raspberry Pi, RTL-SDR and an ESP32-S3 screen

adsb-radar decodes ADS-B on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with an RTL-SDR. An n8n workflow on a Raspberry Pi 5 picks the plane visible from a window and looks up its route, and an ESP32-S3-BOX-3 screen shows it. The owner says all the code came from Claude Code sessions. The README reports 4,623 sightings in 12 days.

Briefing

The receiver is a FlightAware Pro Stick Plus on the Pi Zero 2 W, running readsb, tar1090 and piaware. Every 2 s the n8n workflow on the Pi 5 polls it and filters by a bearing corridor, distance and altitude. Routes come from the airport's flight board first, then FlightAware AeroAPI, then adsbdb. The ESP32-S3-BOX-3 gets the result over MQTT, and the history goes into PostgreSQL.

Besides the 4,623 sightings, the README counts 1,721 aircraft and 184 special sightings, such as 747s, A380s and military aircraft, in the first 12 days. It has no photos of the device.
