OpenBaud: serial devices as audited, replayable tools for coding agents

OpenBaud connects Codex to local serial devices through an MCP server and plugin, with every write audited. It identifies ports from USB metadata, checks framing and checksums, and asks for acknowledgment before dangerous commands. Each byte goes to a capture that replays without hardware. The demo GIF and 46-second video show it on an ESP32-S3.

ae-hw-bridge and HW Puppet: an ESP32-S3 test harness that agents drive over MCP

ae-hw-bridge connects AI agents over MCP to a target board through HW Puppet, MicroPython firmware for an ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1. Over one USB cable, HW Puppet drives the target's reset, boot and power lines and bridges its UART console. A mirrored terminal shows a person the same log the agent reads. Neither README shows a recorded run.

Nod: a three-key pad for answering Claude Code permission prompts

Nod answers Claude Code permission prompts from a 3-key pad built on a Seeed XIAO ESP32-S3: No, Always and Yes. The keys send the desktop app's shortcuts or, after a two-key hold, the terminal's numbered options. It works over USB-C or Bluetooth. The author says the Clawd-shaped variant was tested on hardware; the README shows renders, not photos.

    Tide & Wind Tracker: byte-exact hardware-in-the-loop tests for e-paper

Tide & Wind Tracker shows tides and wind on an M5Stack PaperColor and tests its e-paper rendering on the ESP32-S3 itself. Test firmware renders fixtures sent over USB and returns the canvas bytes for comparison with golden images. Claude Code iterated against those tests while a person approved every change. The README has a photo of it running.

Closed-loop benchmark tests LLM agents that build, check and fix embedded firmware

Jorge García-Carrasco and colleagues published a benchmark in the Journal of Systems Architecture that scores LLM coding agents on 5 embedded-control tasks. Agents must build firmware, verify it and iterate under 4 feedback levels, from one-shot to oracle-style hints. The paper reports 420 runs on simulated ESP32 firmware: GPT-5.4 passed most often, and Qwen3.5-27B was the strongest local model.

Adsum IoT Coder finds a disabled RF front-end with a BLE sniffer it flashed itself

Adsum Networks' IoT Coder agent debugged a Fanstel BWG840 gateway whose nRF52840 BLE scanner ran cleanly but received nothing. It flashed an nRF52840 dongle as a Bluetooth sniffer and compared the air with RTT logs: 36 advertisements captured, none received. The cause was an RF front-end that was never enabled. This is a vendor demo of its own product.

Synacl: program an ESP32 by asking Claude to write a macro that runs on the board

Synacl's 2.5-minute video shows claude.ai writing a macro that runs on an ESP32 flashed with Synacl's gateway firmware. Claude connects through a custom MCP connector, creates a GPIO device and writes a 5-step macro. Its first run is refused until a person grants 2 permissions; then the board's GPIO 2 LED blinks. Synacl made the demo for its own product.

LLMs confidently lie about your microcontroller: board details that broke generated code

In a dev.to post, an embedded developer lists board facts that broke LLM-written firmware after it compiled and flashed. An ST7789 panel needed a 34-pixel offset. A Waveshare ESP32-C6 board shares SPI lines between its display and SD card, and ESP32 ADC2 stops working while Wi-Fi is on. The author's answer is mcu-skills, Claude Code skills for 8 boards.

A 128-tube VFD clock where Claude wrote all 8,000 lines of firmware

Cliff Lasser built a clock from 128 Soviet IV-25 VFD tubes on eight boards, each run by an Arduino Nano ESP32 over RS485. He wrote about 15 pages of specification, and Claude wrote all the code, now over 8,000 lines. The first version, about 3,500 lines, ran on the first try with one bug: the display was rotated 180 degrees.
