An agent reverse-engineers a UV meter's probe protocol and replaces the meter with an STM32

A DeepSeek Harness agent decoded the private UART link between a LinShang LS125 UV meter and its UVALED-X3 probe from measurements on the hardware. The probe answers a poll every 500 ms at 9600 8N1 with 28-byte frames checked by CRC-16/MODBUS. The README reports an STM32F103 host reading 21 of 21 frames with no CRC errors.

Briefing

The poll is a constant 8-byte string with no handshake or ID check, and a second command clears energy, minimum and elapsed time. Each frame carries irradiance and energy as little-endian floats in µW/cm² and µJ/cm², whatever units the meter displays; the maximum is not in the frame. The README says the agent found the checksum by brute force over 65,536 polynomials and that frame values matched the meter's display to 4 decimals in 3 rounds.

A person did the wiring, power and probing and read the meter display; the agent wrote the code and documents. Captures used fx2cap.cjs, built on an official libusb with fx2lafw, because Windows builds of sigrok failed with LIBUSB_ERROR_NOT_SUPPORTED. The repo includes a sample capture.
