Building an MCP server that exposes ESP32 UART and I2C to an LLM

Tech-AD-venture's 65-minute video walks through wiring sensors to an ESP32 over I2C and UART and defining a JSON command protocol on the serial link. It then builds a FastAPI-based MCP server so an LLM called through the OpenAI API can read registers and send commands. We have not watched the full video to confirm the hardware segments.

Briefing

On the device side, the firmware parses JSON commands arriving over UART and talks to the sensors over I2C. The MCP server keeps a tool registry and a context manager, and the description says register values are mapped into the model's context. A layer of rules and a knowledge base sits beside the LLM.

The description lists four demo scenarios: an I2C sensor that is not detected, wrong register values, a communication timeout, and an automatic sensor reset and recovery. It names no sensor parts and links no code. The channel, Tech-AD-venture, posted the video on 3 May 2026.
