Embedder and SEGGER give a firmware agent direct control of J-Link probes

SEGGER and Embedder announced on 10 September that Embedder's firmware agent can now drive J-Link and J-Trace debug probes. The announcement says the agent loads builds, sets breakpoints, reads registers and memory and watches RTT output, then keeps debugging on the target until the code works. It gives no availability date or price.

Briefing

Embedder makes an AI coding agent for embedded software. SEGGER says J-Link supports more than 15,000 devices, but the announcement lists no supported targets, host platforms or required probe models. It describes only J-Link operations, although J-Trace is named in the partnership.

Bob Wei, Embedder's CTO and founder, says the bottleneck in embedded work is shifting from writing firmware to verifying it. Erik Loehr, a SEGGER product manager, argues that agents need direct access to target hardware to take part in the whole cycle. A joint webinar on 29 September at 08:00 Pacific was set to show the integration live.

“AI agents are becoming much more than tools for generating code.”
