Embedder is building an AI agent that writes and tests firmware

Embedder launched its firmware coding agent on Hacker News on 15 August 2025 with a demo adding a magnetometer to a Pebble 2 Duo. Founders Bob Wei and Ethan Gibbs said it reads uploaded datasheets and schematics, checks output over a serial console and steps through code with GDB. SEGGER announced J-Link and J-Trace probe access in September 2026.

Briefing

Users upload datasheets, reference manuals and schematics to a web console, and the agent, an npm package run from the terminal, draws on them as it works. It reads the board through a serial console, and for harder bugs it launches a separate debugging agent that steps through code against a local or remote GDB server. The founders say they started after Cursor wrote STM32 I2C drivers that used registers which did not exist.

Embedder was in Y Combinator's Summer 2025 batch and lists six staff in San Francisco. Its YC page also lists joining the Zephyr Project in September 2026, and partnerships in July 2026 with Joulescope, on power measurement, and with Verkor. The beta was free for the rest of August 2025, with usage-based pricing to follow.
