Keysight releases an MCP server for instrument control with engineer approval

Keysight has released version 0.1 of its MCP Server for Instrument Control as a Windows executable. The release notes list 18 tools that discover VISA instruments, resolve SCPI commands from each instrument's definition file and run them. An engineer approves a plain-language preview of every command before it reaches hardware. Sessions are logged, and a simulation mode needs no instruments.

Briefing

A request passes through intent resolution, command generation from the instrument's definition file, an approval step and execution over VISA. The server scores command matches as high, medium or low confidence and asks the engineer to choose when a match is ambiguous. Six built-in procedures cover S-parameter sweeps, 1-port SOLT calibration, peak search, signal generator output, power supply setup and DMM readings.

The server works with Keysight, NI and Rohde & Schwarz VISA libraries. The release notes say only that version 0.1 came out in May 2026, so the date on this entry is approximate. We found no captured instrument sessions.
