LLMs confidently lie about your microcontroller: board details that broke generated code

In a dev.to post, an embedded developer lists board facts that broke LLM-written firmware after it compiled and flashed. An ST7789 panel needed a 34-pixel offset. A Waveshare ESP32-C6 board shares SPI lines between its display and SD card, and ESP32 ADC2 stops working while Wi-Fi is on. The author's answer is mcu-skills, Claude Code skills for 8 boards.

Briefing

The post's other cases: GPIO23, 24, 25 and 29 on a Raspberry Pi Pico exist in code but not on the 40-pin header, and an STM32F411 clocked at 100 MHz instead of 96 MHz loses USB. The author says the ST7789 detail sat in the vendor's wiki, not in any tutorial.

Each mcu-skills entry has an always-loaded summary with the pin map, reference files loaded on demand, and a template project that builds and flashes. The post suggests copying a skill into the firmware project and adding the project's own pin, timer and DMA assignments, where every new session reads them.

The examples come from the author's own boards and are described in text, with no captures.
