m5-paper-buddy: an M5Paper e-ink approval screen for Claude Code

m5-paper-buddy pairs firmware for an M5Paper V1.1 e-ink board with a Python daemon that mirrors running Claude Code sessions. The screen shows each session's project, branch and context use. Pending tool calls appear full screen, and the board's buttons approve or deny them. It connects over USB serial or BLE. A README photo shows the dashboard on the board.

Briefing

A Python daemon receives Claude Code hook events and forwards them to the board. The PreToolUse card shows the full Bash command, Edit diff or Write preview; PUSH approves and DOWN denies. AskUserQuestion options appear as up to four touch buttons, and requests from several windows queue one at a time. The context bar reads token counts from each session's transcript against a default budget of 200,000.

A long press on UP turns on a do-not-disturb mode that approves automatically. The /buddy-install command sets up PlatformIO, merges the hooks into Claude Code's settings and flashes the firmware and a CJK font. The serial and BLE protocol follows Anthropic's claude-desktop-buddy. The license is GPL-3.0 with an added attribution requirement.
