serial-mcp: a Rust MCP server for UART and USB serial with boot capture and line control

serial-mcp exposes UART and USB serial ports to coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex through 25 MCP tools, written in Rust. An always-on receive buffer answers reads with pattern matching instead of blocking. A boot-capture tool pulses DTR or RTS for Arduino auto-reset, and port allowlists limit what the agent can open. The README shows no board logs.

Claimed
Why this evidence label?

README documents tools, framing and install paths (cargo, Nix, prebuilt binaries); no session logs from a real board are shown.

Briefing

The receive buffer runs whether or not the agent is reading. A read can return at once, wait, match a pattern or replay earlier bytes, and an overflow shows up as bytes_lost. Framing modes cover lines, delimiters, length prefixes, SLIP and COBS, with presets for AT commands, NMEA-0183 and Modbus ASCII. capture_boot keeps only the bytes that arrive after its DTR or RTS pulse.

Per-device settings live in TOML profiles with revisions, and --allowlist takes glob patterns. Besides the 25 tools, the server offers 5 resources and 2 prompts over stdio or HTTP. It installs through cargo, Nix or prebuilt binaries for 4 platforms, under the MIT license.
