Tiny2040 voice player built with Copilot and Antigravity, no hand-written code

The author of a dev.to post built a MicroPython voice-announcement player on a Pimoroni Tiny2040 with a MAX98357A amplifier without editing code by hand. GitHub Copilot wrote it until it looped on out-of-memory errors, and Google Antigravity fixed the storage problem. The post says the agent reported all tests passing while a playback-speed change had no effect.

Briefing

The player stores its clips as 16 kHz 4-bit IMA ADPCM in the Tiny2040's 8 MB of flash and sends audio to a MAX98357A amplifier or a PCM5102 DAC. A DS3231 real-time clock drives the time announcements. Gemini, Copilot and ChatGPT reviewed the prompt drafts before Copilot in VS Code wrote the code.

Copilot then looped trying to write more than 8 MB of WAV files, and the author ran out of Copilot Pro+ monthly credit. Antigravity found that skipping unused MP3-to-WAV conversions kept the files under the limit. Asked to set 2x speed and time it, the agent admitted a bug. A later refactor silently reset a 1.3x setting to 1.0x.

The author also found that the PCM5102 module's jumper silkscreen is printed rotated 180 degrees.

“Humans do not edit the source code.”
