AMD Ross: an agentic assistant for FPGA, adaptive SoC and embedded x86 design

AMD introduced Ross on 30 September, an agentic assistant for development on its FPGAs, adaptive SoCs and embedded x86 processors. AMD says Ross pairs MCP servers for its tools such as Vivado and Vitis HLS with expert-written agent skills and a documentation search. It runs in clients such as Claude Code or Cursor. The launch video shows no hardware run.

Briefing

AMD's product page lists four parts: MCP server executables for Windows and Linux, downloaded with an AMD account; a knowledge base searched through retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), which can also run offline; agent skills and design examples on GitHub; and a VS Code extension that bundles the Vivado MCP server with the knowledge base.

The FAQ lists support for all Vivado versions and for Vitis HLS 2025.2 and later. Users choose the model, open-weight or frontier. The 70-second launch video is a product overview, and we have not seen Ross drive a board.
