Claude Code brings up a legacy FPGA project on an Arty A7, then saves the steps as skills

In an Octopart video, Ari Mahpour gives Claude Code one prompt and an attached Analog Discovery 2. Running Opus 4.8, it upgrades a Vivado 2018 design to 2025.2 and programs a Digilent Arty A7 in about 15 minutes. Mahpour then saves the session as a CLAUDE.md file and skills; a fresh session repeats the bring-up in seconds.

Briefing

In the first half the agent reads the repo, runs lsusb to identify the board by VID and PID, checks the Xilinx toolchain, fetches missing board files, migrates the old project, generates a bitstream and programs the FPGA. It then drives a 1 Hz signal, ramps and speed changes into the board through the Analog Discovery MCP server and WaveForms.

The second half covers the files that make the run repeatable: a CLAUDE.md, saved memories, skills and a list of gotchas. Mahpour says the same pattern works with AGENTS.md in Codex CLI or Cursor.
