An Orange Pi rig that flashes and resets a Raspberry Pi CM5 for a coding agent

Sergio Marin built a flash lab in which an Orange Pi 3 LTS controls a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 for a coding agent. Through transistors it presses the power button and sets the boot mode, and it handles USB flashing and the serial console. He writes that clean flashes exposed a Wi-Fi bug a saved profile had hidden.

Briefing

Marin's cm5lab tool wraps power cycles, USB boot mode and flashing in commands the agent can run, and the work targets Pantavisor images. The CLI under test asked for the wrong ConnMan bus name and swallowed the error, which the saved Wi-Fi profile hid until a clean flash. The loop also found that scans did not run while the access point was up, that saved connections with random MACs did not always reconnect and that the hub agent registered against the production host.

Marin is with Pantacor, and he concludes that an agent needs a short feedback loop more than a perfect plan. The post does not name the agent. Some fixes needed a cold boot or a reflash to confirm.

“The agent changes the code, runs it on the device, reads what happened, and tries again.”
