Claude Code builds a DENSO robot arm control system in 4.5 hours

Norihide Mikami used Claude Code with Opus 4.7 to write a Flask control system for a DENSO six-axis arm in one 4.5-hour hackathon session. It drives the arm over b-CAP, an IAI electric gripper over Modbus RTU, a 4K Basler GigE camera, a webcam and a PS5 gamepad. The three-minute video shows the system running.

Briefing

The README lists what broke along the way. Gamepad moves in slave mode crashed at once because the default frame put the tool near a wrist singularity; switching to a tool frame fixed it. Accumulated gamepad deltas were applied twice when the loops drifted, so a velocity buffer replaced them. Modbus writes of about 15 ms blocked the gamepad thread until they moved to their own thread.

The Basler camera shipped with no IP address and was set up through raw GVCP register writes. A person drives the arm with the gamepad or the web UI; Claude Code wrote the software.
