dps150: a CLI and Claude Code skill for the FNIRSI DPS-150 bench power supply

dps150 reads and controls a FNIRSI DPS-150 bench power supply over USB serial, speaking its binary protocol from a single Python file. It reads voltage, current, power and protection state, sets the output and trip points, and prints JSON for agents. It installs as a Claude Code skill. Aaron Perkins says it is tested only with the DPS-150.

Briefing

The supply enumerates as an AT32 USB-CDC port (VID:PID 2e3c:5740), which the tool finds on its own. Each run opens the port, starts telemetry with a handshake, does its job and disconnects; the handshake does not change the output or stored setpoints. A status read merges a full snapshot with live readings over about 0.8 s. Packets start with 0xF1 and end in a checksum, with floats in little-endian IEEE-754.

The README's safety notes say the output may already be powering a board, so status comes before any change, that off is always safe, and that setting a voltage does not turn the output on. The protocol was reverse-engineered by cho45 and KochC, and dps150 is an independent implementation of their findings.
