Saras 2.0: a Raspberry Pi 4 rover that runs Claude Code as its brain

Tech With Anant rebuilt the Saras rover around Claude Code running on a Raspberry Pi 4. A small MCP server exposes the motors, encoders and camera as tools, and a CLAUDE.md file sets the robot's identity. An LD06 lidar handles obstacle detection. The 24-minute video shows the rover in a live test, driving toward a named object around obstacles.

Briefing

The published repo is a minimal starter: a FastMCP server with move, stop, encoder and capture_image tools, and a serial driver for an ESP32 that runs four JGA25 encoder motors through an H-bridge. The full build adds a DFRobot VL53L7CX 8x8 time-of-flight sensor, a Pi Camera Module 3, a USB webcam and a 7-inch display on a chassis designed in Fusion 360.

The video description says the rebuild took about a year. It also says Claude Haiku makes the robot react faster, while harder navigation needs Sonnet's multi-step reasoning. The README leaves the motor-controller sketch to the builder.
