Adsum IoT Coder finds a disabled RF front-end with a BLE sniffer it flashed itself

Adsum Networks' IoT Coder agent debugged a Fanstel BWG840 gateway whose nRF52840 BLE scanner ran cleanly but received nothing. It flashed an nRF52840 dongle as a Bluetooth sniffer and compared the air with RTT logs: 36 advertisements captured, none received. The cause was an RF front-end that was never enabled. This is a vendor demo of its own product.

Briefing

In the first episode, released 21 July, the agent wrote both halves of the gateway firmware from one spec: a Zephyr BLE scanner on the nRF52840, and Wi-Fi, MQTT and a web dashboard on the ESP32 under ESP-IDF. It built and flashed both chips on the gateway.

In this episode the tags were advertising five centimeters from the antenna. The code compiled and the logs were clean, but the configuration that switches on the front-end between antenna and radio was missing, and neither the source nor the logs showed it. Adsum IoT Coder is an open-source VS Code extension that works with ESP32 and nRF chips.
