Claude Code designs a replacement shelf hook in OpenSCAD and checks its own renders before printing

Wataru Takasato had Claude Code write OpenSCAD from caliper measurements, render PNG previews and check them before each print on a Bambu Lab A1 mini. A tolerance plate showed holes printing about 0.2 mm small in PETG. The replacement bag hook for his shelf still needed its screw holes drilled; Takasato thinks printing it on its side changed their clearance.

Briefing

Claude Code ran Sonnet 5 with a nightly build of OpenSCAD. It wrote the .scad file, rendered a PNG through the OpenSCAD command line and reviewed the image before anything went to the printer. The tolerance plate came first, in PETG, with holes from 4.6 to 5.2 mm.

The first hook session worked from photos, failed and was scrapped. A second session started from written requirements and converged after Takasato's feedback. The part was printed rotated 90 degrees, which turned the screw holes horizontal, and he drilled them out. The English page is a machine translation of the Japanese article.
