Claude Code drives a Freenove mecanum robot car over MCP and maps obstacles with its sonar

Claude Code drives a Freenove 4WD mecanum car on a Raspberry Pi Pico W through an MCP server and plain-text TCP commands. In one session it reversed until the ultrasonic sensor read 6 cm, then swept the sensor from 20 to 140 degrees and plotted the distances. The repo has photos, terminal captures and clips from live sessions.

Briefing

The MCP server sends plain-text commands to the car over TCP port 4002, and the Pico W joins 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. Tools cover driving, the WS2812 LED, the buzzer, the servo, the HC-SR04 sensor and an SSD1306 OLED, which needed a firmware patch.

In the documented session Claude Code reversed in 0.5-second bursts, reading 79, 40 and then 6 cm. Its stop threshold was 10 cm. The sweep took readings at 13 angles between 20 and 140 degrees: the wall sat at 6 to 7 cm, with 241 cm at 130 degrees. Claude Code saved the plot.
